FAILE
Fragments of Faile
Lazarides Rathbone Gallery
Nov. 3rd – Nov. 30th 2011
A lot of web chatter regarding these new pieces from Faile which debuted at Lazarides gallery last night. Seems many are coming out against them (me included) whilst at the same time stating it's a brave move. It's interesting that if you like a particular Street Artist or collective you're regarded as a "Fan" and not an art lover in general. Kinda like being into The Smiths, but not music. Anyway, this body of work seems to be Faile's difficult second album, an album where they get into music, or in this case, art. And for me, it really doesn't work. Those painterly backdrops just seem way too contrived and flat, added on after the fact, plus the figures resemble shop mannequins. And mannequins in art should be banned.
Fortunately all is not lost, as the following Faile post from the same exhibition shows.
