Our last day in Katowice, and the last official day of painting, even if some artists were to continue the day after.

 We borrowed bikes to get to see all the works, and started eastwards to see Swanski's finished piece. Then past Ludo's giant police ant in an pittoresque suburb, to Escif's giant power switch on residential blocks far to the north. A beautiful piece by Etam Cru was still present next to the largest shopping mall in the area.

 In the center M-city started his work, to be finished tomorrow. Mark Jenkins connected to the flying constellation of Moneyless. And Tellas started on a new wall in an area of brick buildings soon to be demolished.

 The day and the festival was rounded up with a giant party in a partly abandoned highrise Communist age building, with a DJ set visualized by a live digital mural by Nawer vs Temporary Space Design. Documentation video: http://vimeo.com/41192664 . This was a great climax to a well organized festival. That is impressing, being only the second year of the festival.

WALL 2 FROM TELLAS IN KATOWICE

Second intriguing installment for Katowice from Italian artist Tellas. 

This monochromatic style really gives you an opportunity to be reflective over the work, something I think can often get lost with big colourful murals.

I'm sure there's a more eloquent way of putting it, but let's leave that for someone with a better command of the English language hey.

The wonderful people at Katowice Street Art Festival in Poland invited Nuart to participate on various panels etc. Kristel Talv and GT flew over late last week and have been reporting back. Here's day 3.

Mariacka street is the heart of the city. The pedestrian street is lined with spotless cafes and pubs with spotless people. Parallell to it is the Mariacka alley, which is another world. This is the backside, facing the noisy railway lines. This is the main spot for the murals of Katowice Street Art Festival. Tellas and Moneyless finished their wall here yesterday, and Moneyless made an installation in a backyard today. Roa continued on his walls of swallows. One of his lifts broke down, but the company guys came to the spot and fixed it. Roa managed to finish his piece in the dark tonight.

We rented bikes to get to the more remote spots. Hyuro's wall of gunwomen is in the west part of town. In a busy underpass local artist have taken over one side. Mona Tusz was working on painting/mirror installation, while Drobczyk, Vero King and Raspazjan had finished their pieces. Rumour has it that Swanski finished his giant wall today as well, he was even offered coffee through the window of a friendly inhabitant. Kristel made a presentation of Stavanger and Nuart before the screening of the Nuart documentary «Eloquent Vandals». And the evening ended with a barbecue in a backyard of Mariacka alley, where the festival team and the artists partied under the stars and the constellation made by Moneyless.

KATOWICE DAY 1

Nuart's GT and Kristel are in Poland at the moment participating in the Katowice Street Art Festival panels as well as hosting a screening of Nuart's documentary  Eloquent Vandals.

Here's the first of several reports from the frontline.

In the center of Katowice, at what is called The Eye of the City, is a pink toy excavator. Approaching it I realize it is an excavator of regular size, but it is dwarfed by the large plaza and the giant stadium disc it is placed nearby. And it is cozyfied by its croched cover of colourful yarn made by artist Olek. The machine that is so present in rapidly changing and constantly rebuilding Katowice is turned into a plaything that locals even hang out on.

 Katowice Street Art Festival seems to be a well organized festival with exhibitions, concerts and academical happenings in addition to the murals. This day there was a debate where Ixi Color of Warsaw, Urban Forms of Lodz, Fame of Grottaglie and Nuart of Stavanger was represented. The debate concentrated on questions like: Who are a street art festival for? Why do you organize a street art festival? What happens with the art when there are so many festivals?

 At the same time an impressive amount of artist are working on their murals. Some have finished already, some are yet to come. Tellas and Moneyless have almost finished. And the risk of their work being buffed during the night is zero, as there is a guy sitting in a car making sure that nobody steals the lift. Everything seems to be taken care of here.

Fantastic new piece from Escif at Katowice Street Art Festival in Poland, without a doubt one of our favourite works of his yet. Really looking forward to see what this festival brings to the table.

KATOWICE STREET ART FESTIVAL

Poland's Katowice Street Art festival is well under way with recent works from Olek and Ludo appearing in the city. Other participants include Roa, Hyuro, Escif, Mark Jenkins, M-City and many more. You can also check out Nuart's contribution, Nuart crew members Kristel Talv and GT will be in town to give a presentation on Nuart as well as host a rare screening of the Nuart documentary Eloquent Vandals.
