We're supporting AFUERA, why don't you head over to Kickstarter and do the same. A street Art project with the potential to inspire change.
"AFUERA is a public art event based in Peru which will see local and International street artists painting public murals in some of the country’s most remote and unexpected places. We believe that taking Afuera to areas usually far removed from the world of contemporary street art will not only have a positive impact on these communities but will also immerse the artists in environments which they would not normally have access to and will expose them to experiences which will feed the creative process.
June 2012 will mark the first edition of AFUERA which will be held in the remote mining community, Cerro de Pasco high in the Peruvian Andes. We believe that this is the ideal location to launch the project as it has a unique urban/industrial landscape and is a powerful example of the complex environmental and social problems faced by modern mining communities.
AFUERA is the brainchild of the independant artist run gallery, MORBO, in Lima, Peru. AFUERA will be funded in part by MORBO, but will also rely on private donations and the support of the Municipality of Cerro de Pasco.
Events such as Nuart in Norway and Fame Festival in Italy have shown that it is possible to successfully take street art away from urban centers to less cosmopolitan areas, and personal projects such as El Tonos ‘Proyecto Barios’ and JR’s ‘Women Are Heroes’ have shown that street art can engage and revitalise marginalized communities. AFUERA hopes to draw on these past successes and apply them to Cerro de Pasco.
